Prime Minister meets Armenian counterpart Nikol Pashinyan in Munich

On 19 February, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonytė, has met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinian, in Munich, to discuss the security situation in the South Caucasus, the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, Russia’s war against Ukraine, cooperation between the European Union and Armenia, and Armenia’s democratic reform agenda.

The Lithuanian Prime Minister has underlined the importance of a lasting and sustainable solution to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and the role of the EU as a mediator in the peace process.

Ingrida Šimonytė has expressed her hope that the establishment of a full-fledged EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) will contribute to stability in the border areas and build confidence on the ground.

The Lithuanian Prime Minister has pointed out the importance of the implementation of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive Enhanced Partnership Agreement and closer EU-Armenia relations, reiterating Lithuania’s readiness to continue sharing Lithuania’s expertise and support for reforms.

The Prime Ministers has also discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine and assistance to Ukraine, and also underlined the importance of cooperation between the two democracies, Lithuania and Armenia.

On 18-19 February, the Lithuanian Prime Minister is attending the Munich Security Conference in Germany, where she will speak at a session focused on Europe’s strategic sovereignty.

The Munich Security Conference is an annual event that brings together world leaders, academic and business representatives to discuss global security challenges. It is considered the largest gathering of its kind, and this year marks its 59th edition.
