Prime Minister Meets with Estonian Leaders: Lithuania and Estonia Safer, Stronger, and More Successful Together
The security of the region and Europe, joint energy and infrastructure projects, support for Ukraine, and the pursuit of sustainable peace are shared interests and priorities for Lithuania and Estonia, as highlighted in Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas’ meetings with Estonian leaders.
During his visit to Tallinn on Monday, Prime Minister G. Paluckas met with Estonian leaders – Prime Minister Kristen Michal, President Alar Karis, and Speaker of Parliament (Riigikogu) Lauri Hussar.
“Lithuania and Estonia are more than just close countries – we are friends and allies, united by a deep bond between our nations. This is especially significant today, as our region and Europe face the urgent need to strengthen security and deterrence. Lithuania and Estonia are fulfilling their duty, standing among NATO’s leaders in defence investments. Together, we must push Europe to become the power it is capable of being in this challenging time and to serve as a strong link in the transatlantic security architecture,” said Prime Minister G. Paluckas.
In the meetings, it was emphasised that the future of European security critically depends on achieving a sustainable and just peace in Ukraine, one that includes real security guarantees for Ukrainians.
G. Paluckas stressed the necessity of continuing and intensifying pressure on Russia and Belarus through sanctions, including the use of frozen Russian assets to compensate for the damage inflicted on Ukraine.
The meetings addressed EU initiatives aimed at strengthening European security, including the action plans outlined in the ReArm Europe programme and the White Paper on Defence.
During discussions with Estonian leaders, the Lithuanian Prime Minister emphasised the growing importance of cooperation among Baltic Sea region countries in formats such as the Nordic-Baltic Eight. "We are connected by geography, indivisible security, and shared values and interests," he noted.
Significant attention was also given to energy cooperation and the Rail Baltica project, whose timely implementation requires all participating countries to maintain a unified and accelerated pace.
Mr Paluckas also highlighted the maintenance of a strong transatlantic partnership as a priority, as it is the basis for common security.
