Prime Minister talks security, defence, and cooperation with Dutch Ambassador
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė met with Ambassador of the Netherlands to Lithuania, Jack Twiss Quarles van Ufford.
Lithuania and the Netherlands are close allies, strong partners, and like-minded countries when it comes to key security and defence issues.
‘A close friendship between like-minded nations is always important—and even more so in times of security challenges like this. I am therefore pleased that Lithuania and the Netherlands share common values, interests, and aligned views on the importance of strengthening Europe’s deterrence and defence capabilities. We are particularly grateful to the Netherlands for its active role in ensuring security in our region,’ said Prime Minister Ruginienė.
Dutch troops serve in Lithuania as part of the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence battlegroup, and the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission, and the Netherlands contributes to the rotational air defence model.
The Netherlands is also Lithuania’s key economic partner, and the Lithuanian Government sees significant potential for cooperation in defence industry.
‘Lithuania offers attractive conditions for foreign defence industry investors, actively develops competencies and capabilities in this field, and is open to partnerships with Dutch companies,’ noted Prime Minister Ruginienė.
