Prime Minister: the Strategic Partnership Between Lithuania and the United States Is a Government Priority

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius met with United States Ambassador Kara C. McDonald at the Government Office on Wednesday.

“We highly value the time-tested strategic partnership between Lithuania and the United States, our strong ties as allies, and the indispensable contribution of American troops to ensuring regional security and the most effective deterrence. The United States knows that it can rely on Lithuania as a partner that not only talks about security but takes concrete action and contributes to allied efforts in areas where broader international security issues are addressed. For my Government, strengthening relations with the United States is one of the priority objectives on the security and foreign policy agenda,” said Prime Minister Sinkevičius.

Lithuania, which allocates 5.38 percent of its GDP to national defence, takes security challenges seriously and consistently advocates for greater defence commitments from allies in Europe. The Prime Minister noted that a strong transatlantic partnership must be based on shared responsibility for collective security and constructive cooperation. This is particularly important as Russia continues its brutal war against Ukraine and remains the greatest threat to the NATO alliance.

The Prime Minister added that Lithuania, as a host nation, will continue to consistently invest in improving comprehensive conditions for troops and is prepared to host more U.S. soldiers.

Lithuania is also open to closer partnerships with the United States in the fields of defence industry, energy, and high-value-added sectors, Prime Minister Sinkevičius emphasised.
