Prime Minister’s meeting with German Chancellor: Russia’s intimidation will not disarm our resolve to support Ukraine to victory
Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė thanked German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for Germany’s longstanding contribution to the security of Lithuania and the region, underlining the importance of the Western democracies’ support for Ukraine to victory.
‘We are grateful to Germany for the decision to station a brigade in Lithuania, which strengthens the security of the entire NATO alliance, and for its contribution to the security of Lithuania and our region for many years on the run. Such leadership is key against the backdrop of current geopolitical challenges. The decision on the brigade takes our security cooperation to a qualitatively new level and I hope that we will soon be able to talk about new breakthroughs in other areas. I have no doubt that having more Germany in Lithuania and more Lithuania in Germany would contribute to the prosperity of both countries,’ said the Prime Minister.
Ingrida Šimonytė also noted the strong public support for the stationing of the German brigade in Lithuania, assuring that Lithuania, as the host country, will provide all necessary conditions for German troops and their families.
It's reassuring to see the process progressing smoothly, added the Head of Government.
Regarding the security situation amidst Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Prime Minister Šimonytė emphasized that Russia’s intimidation should not weaken our resolve nor hinder our support for Ukraine.
The Prime Minister thanked Germany for its critical support to Ukraine, emphasizing its role in defending freedom on a daily basis. She stressed the importance of ongoing and increased assistance from democracies aligned with Ukraine's defense needs, highlighting its crucial role in Ukraine's journey to victory—a goal shared by all states committed to upholding the rule of law.
