Prime Minister’s meeting with start-ups association Unicorn LT

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė met with the start-ups association Unicorn LT to discuss talent development, retraining and attraction.

The Prime Minister talked about integration of IT across education process - helping primary school teachers to learn how to use programming as a tool in teaching, also about a unified programme which could be applied nationally or across individual subjects.  Ideas were shared on how to make programming more accessible to adults who have different careers but are not fully content with what they do. Talent attraction was also among the subjects discussed.

‘It is true that start-ups have lately seen a steady rise in Lithuania. Their products are world-known, they create jobs, and they pay taxes. Lithuania is open to co-creation: we boast of innovation-conducive environment, world-class talents, growing ecosystems of IT, life sciences and financial technologies, and our home-grown start-ups come up with solutions to global challenges. We have all the chances to become the best place in the world “to breed” unicorns, and we are ready to do what is due on our part’, said Ingrida Šimonytė.

The founders of the association Unicorn Lt are Lithuanian start-ups that have mushroomed during the pandemic and have millions of users all over the world.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Board of the Association and Executive Director of Vinted, Mantas Mikuckas, CEO of the Association and co- founder of the support portal Aukok.lt, Inga Langaitė, and representatives of the Association Karina Dirvonskienė and Mantas Katinas.

Lithuania currently has over 2 000 start-ups to compare with 651 in 2020.
