Prospects for Government cooperation with OECD
Earlier today, Chancellor of the Government Giedrė Balčytytė has met with Ulrik Knudsen, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development to discuss prospects for co-operation.
‘The platform for cooperation between the Lithuanian Government and the OECD rests, in fact, on the programme of the Government and the action plan covering Government’s key reforms and priorities: open data, open Government communication, and evidence-based decisions’ said the Chancellor.
The Chancellor has noted that Lithuania is witnessing now an unprecedented case of illegal migration used for political purposes as a tool of hybrid aggression. The EU institutions have been notified of this situation at all levels. Lithuania already has Frontex helping out on the border, but it is obvious that more help will be needed. Lithuania has no doubts that these problems will be resolved together with the European Union.
On COVID-19, it has been noted that the fact that vaccine supply has been centralised in the EU has played a crucial rule. The number of notifications has fallen drastically, and the pandemic has been visibly shrinking in its proportions. 45% of the population have been vaccinated in Lithuania, and almost 50% have developed immunity.
The parties have also talked about OECD’s projects for Lithuania, the Skills Strategy, and OECD experts’ involvement in the upcoming transformations.
‘It would be preferable to have more Lithuanian experts in the preparation and implementation of reform-driven projects, so that they would not only reflect the best practices of the OECD countries but would also provide for possibilities of reforming in Lithuania’, said Giedrė Balčytytė.
