Prime Minister sends greetings to Germany on German Unity Day

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius, on behalf of the Government and the people of Lithuania, extended his warmest greetings to Germany and its people on the occasion of German Unity Day, Germany’s national holiday.

“Today, the strategic partnership between Lithuania and Germany rests on strong bilateral ties and our shared membership of NATO and the European Union. Our countries and people are also bound by deep historical and cultural links. In recent years, our cooperation in the fields of economy, security and defence has grown significantly stronger, with Germany emerging as one of the key pillars of security in Europe, and particularly on NATO’s eastern flank.

The Prime Minister noted Germany’s exceptional contribution to the security of our region and its steadfast commitment to strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. The deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania marks a decision of historic importance and is of vital importance to Lithuania.

“We are deeply grateful for the presence of German troops in Lithuania and their significant contribution to strengthening our defence. Lithuania is firmly committed to ensuring the best possible conditions for their long-term presence and service in our country. Strong support for Ukraine is an essential part of our joint efforts to safeguard European security. Today, more than ever, our unity and resolve to defend freedom, security, democracy and our shared European future are vital. I am confident that, by working together and maintaining close cooperation, we will meet every threat, stand up for our values, and make Europe more resilient and united,” the Prime Minister said in his message.
